Looking out my office window at dawn this morning, I saw dense fog. Excited, I grabbed my photo backpack, jumped into Rusty, and drove over to Mount Pisgah Arboretum. Forest and fog is one of my favorite photo subjects. I had in mind a broad landscape, with fog separating multiple trees in the forest, lending depth to the scene.
The fog was thick as I pulled away from home, but once over the hill, I was disappointed to clearly see Mount Pisgah in the distance. But I was already almost there, and I needed to get some exercise anyway. I resigned myself to just going for a nice little hike and enjoying some Shinrin Yoku time.
About half a mile up the trail towards the summit, I paused for a breather and suddenly noticed the fog was rolling in, and just there was a lone Oregon Oak tree, barren of leaves but covered in lichen, with the fog mostly obscuring the forest behind it.

I happily set up my tripod, mounted my camera, adjusted settings, and tried various compositions. The time flew by, and there was a smile on my face as I completed my hike and headed home.
Once again, I was reminded that when I let go of expectations, opportunities present themselves. I just have to make myself open to whatever comes my way.
